Burnout has become endemic in the world and, since the onset of Covid, the problem has been compounded to a significant degree with many people working from home and the subsequent blurring of boundaries between work and life. Health care systems and doctors in particular have seldom been under the relentless pressures brought about by the Covid pandemic with many suffering from burnout. Compounding the problem is frequent moral distress experienced by doctors due to shortages of resources. However, even, before the pandemic, burnout has been reported to be a significant problem in South Africa, with rates in local studies varying between 59% to 100%, depending on the setting in which they worked.

A replay is now available for the webinar 'Burnout in doctors: Is it me or is it them?', presented by Prof Christoffel Grobler and brought to you by Medical Academic in partnership with Dr Reddy's [Image: Cookie_Studio/Freepik].
