Dr Eppel pursued his medical education at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he also completed his specialisation in urology. He successfully passed the general surgery fellowship examinations, earning a Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons from the University of Edinburgh.
Dr Eppel continued to advance his medical training in the United States, achieving certification from the American Board of Urology. He completed a distinguished fellowship in Neuro-Urology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
His academic career included tenure as an Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Following this, he transitioned to private practice in Memphis, Tennessee.
In 2006, Dr Eppel returned to South Africa with his family. Since then, he has been in private practice at the Chris Barnard Memorial Hospital in Cape Town. For several years, he has been in partnership with Dr. Shaun Smit, together managing a comprehensive range of urological conditions. Dr Eppel's special interests include neuro-urology, pelvic organ dysfunction and pain, and sexual dysfunction.
Outside his professional commitments, Dr Eppel enjoys spending quality time with his family, hiking, swimming, and playing the guitar.
