According to the 2016 National Cancer Registry, South African men have a 1 in 19 chance of contracting prostate cancer during their lifetimes, making it the most common male cancer locally. For this reason, South African practitioners (including GPs) need to be aware of the need to screen male patients for tell-tale signs of this disease.
