It’s raining women

Our series of articles on women’s health look at the iron needs of girls, adolescents and in adulthood, as well as the benefits of egg timer testing, which allow women to know what their reproductive potential are and plan, accordingly. We provide tips on what contraceptives are best for which patients, investigate endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome, which affect women of reproductive age, and delve into the importance of nutritional supplementation during pregnancy to ensure the best outcomes for mother and baby.

In older women, breast cancer (BCa) is one of the leading diseases. In our article on page 8, we share the news that abemaciclib recently became the first cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 inhibitor to be approved as adjuvant treatment in combination with endocrine therapy for high-risk hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative, and node-positive early BCa.

Lastly, we look at menopause transition and the benefits as well as some of the risks associated with hormone replacement therapy. In our article on page 52, we also look at why women are at greater risk of obesity and the role of hormones.
