Dr Theron is a distinguished physician with extensive experience in internal medicine. He earned his MBChB degree in 1988 and his MMed degree cum laude in 1995, both from the University of Stellenbosch.
Dr Theron began his private practice at Medi-Clinic Durbanville in 1996, where he continues to work. His passion for medicine extends beyond clinical practice to medical education. In 2013, he initiated a project with the University of Stellenbosch, allowing 4th and 5th-year medical students to rotate in private hospitals.
The project, which started as a trial in 2014, expanded to multiple hospitals due to its success. This inspired Dr Theron to pursue an MPhil in Health Professions Education, which he completed in 2018.
Dr Theron has been actively involved in medical education and professional development, conducting regular talks for GPs and peers. During 2022 and 2023, he hosted bi-weekly lunch chats via Zoom with GPs across South Africa, in collaboration with De Nova Medica. The series resumed in October.
He led the Covid-19 team at Mediclinic Durbanville, achieving notable success with their treatment regimes. Dr Theron remains dedicated to staying current with medical trends and continues to contribute significantly to the field of internal medicine.
