Anaemia is defined as a condition in which the number of red cells or their oxygen carrying capacity is insufficient to meet physiological needs. The World Health Organization defines anaemia as a haemoglobin(Hb) concentration below 13g/dl in men over 15 years of age, below 12g/dl in non-pregnant women over 15 years of age, and below 11g/dl in pregnant women.
