According to the 2012 National Cancer Registry, 8 203 new cases of BC were reported at an age standardised incidence rate of 35.12 per 100 000 per year. In 2011 the overall lifetime risk was 1:29 but varied from 1:12 in White women to 1:50 in Black women. The risk in mixed-race women was 1:18 and in Indian women 1:25.

Postoperative radiotherapy is strongly recommended after breast conservation surgery, since whole-breast RT alone reduces the 10-year risk of any first recurrence (including locoregional and distant) by 15%.
