With the new SGLT-2 inhibitors, glucose is no longer re-absorbed from the proximal tubules and is excreted in the urine with a secondary reduction in serum glucose by removing excess glucose from the body. In general, they reduce Hb1Ac with mean changes around 0.5% to 1.0%.
