Many doctors are hesitant to prescribe imiquimod for actinic keratoses (AK) or basal cell carcinomas (BCCs), so they rather refer their patients to a dermatologist, this is because of the skin’s reaction to the treatment. It is important to inform patients of what to expect, and how GP’s can encourage patients to continue treatment for 4;6;8 weeks by managing their expectations well in advance.
