The diagnoses and treatment of fibromyalgia, a chronic painful condition of unknown aetiology, can be challenging, says Dr Erné Richter, a rheumatologist based in Cape Town.

Fibromyalgia is associated with a large number of symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, weight gain, cognitive impairment, chronic pain, sleep disorders, anxiety and depression as well as skin and vision problems.
