Dr. Janvier Serumondo
Dr. Serumondo is a Medical Doctor holding 2 Masters’ degrees in Public Health and in Transfusion Medicine both from the University of Liege, Belgium. He has occupied Public Health leadership positions for more than 10 years in the Rwanda Health Sector. Currently, Dr. Janvier Serumondo serves as the Director of Sexually Transmitted Infections and Viral Hepatitis Unit in Rwanda Biomedical Centre from 2017. In addition, he has been the Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Unit in the Rwanda Biomedical Centre, National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for 6 years, with vast experience in Laboratory Quality Management System and ISO Accreditation Standards.
Dr. Racheal Beyagira
Dr. Racheal Beyagira is a tenacious medical health professional with a career spanning 12 years across a multitude of disciplines in the health sector. She has hands-on experience not only as a medical practitioner but was instrumental in the introduction of key policies for the health sector in Uganda. Currently she serves as head technical officer of the Ministry of Health, responsible for the Viral Hepatitis monitoring under the vaccine department, coordinating and overseeing activities under the programme. Through this, she played an integral role in the development of the first-ever documented guidelines for the treatment and training material of hepatitis in Uganda.
Prof. Catherine Wendy Nest Spearman
Prof. Spearman is Head of the Division of Hepatology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town. She is the Head of the Liver and Liver Transplant clinics at the Groote Schuur Hospital. Prof. Spearman completed her 2-year Hepatology Fellowship under professors Ralph Kirsch and Simon Robson at the UCT/MRC Liver Research Centre in 1991 and obtained her PhD in 2008 from the University of Cape Town. She is actively involved in outreach Liver education programs, was appointed by the international Association of Providers of AIDS Care to develop training modules on the management of Hepatitis B for Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, she is the Co-director of the Viral Hepatitis in Sub-Saharan Africa ECHO clinics.
